End of Summer Swim

Sept 28 – Sunny sky, cold water.

Today at the lake…it was COLD. I met with my swim buddy, K4 (lots of K names; I had to number them), and there was nobody in the water. Not many people at the park, either. Funny that the temperature drops a bit, and the park clears out. Fair weather people!

We figured it would be cold, but neither of is wanted to bother with a wetsuit. We waded into the water up to our waists, and then did lots of yelling and complaining about how cold the water was. I couldn’t feel my knees! (Later, after my swim I saw my friends B, T, & R. They said they heard us yelling. LOL.)

Eventually, we plunged in, and just swam straight out toward the middle of the lake. K4 is a faster swimmer than I am (everybody is), and I swim crooked, so we ended up in different places but both parallel with the swim buoy that we sometimes swim to. Then we both swam towards it, rejoicing when we reached it. Not bad for a day I felt I had nothing in the tank.

We drifted a bit in the waves. I started laughing because I was floating away, north. Then we decided to swim south for a bit. We pulled up to take a wee break, then headed back to the beach. EXCEPT, I swim crooked! So the next time I pulled up, I was swimming west instead of east. I got sorted, and swam back to the beach. Just after we got out another swimmer, coming from the south, also got out and we said our hellos across the beach.

Even though I had to drag myself to the lake today I was really happy I made it. The water was totally refreshing, and the cold gave me the giggles. K4 and I agreed that 1) it has to be cold to get the high, 2) time for wetsuits.

Really, today was the first time I got a buzz from swimming in months. I had suspected that this was the case, but know I know. Swimming in the summer isn’t the same. Lovely to feel the water against my skin, and it’s a nice way to exercise and cool off, but if I want the giddy feeling I have to keep swimming in the cold water.

After K4 left I got to talk to my friends B, T, & R for a bit. We talked to the guy who feeds the ducks. He gives them cat food because bread is bad for ducks. He saids the cat food has protein, which he thinks is good for the ducks.

I love my park! So much to do there, and so so so nice to have friends there. I think it will soon be too dark to swim there in the early evenings, so we’ll be moving to another beach.
