Perfect Way to End the Week

Today at the lake there were two sail boats, two kayakers, and two other swimmers. One of the swimmers was K, who I have been swimming with before. She was helping a new swimmer get acclimated, so they were just in and out of the lake. I was really happy to run into them.

After the depressing swim I had two days ago I was ready to power it out today. I just got in and headed south and east. I had set my alarm for 20 minutes, so I wanted to swim out as far as I could. I felt good in the water. Not too tired. Not too cold. Not in my head. I focussed on my form and my breathing, wishing I had a recording of the snorkel. I love the rhythm my breathing gets into when I swim. It was the same when I used to run. I am not an organized person, and my life and health are fairly out of control these days/years, so being able to meditate on that rhythm in the water is so comforting. My mind can settle on observing.

I didn’t try to float today because I wanted to swim out long, then come back in rather than go back and forth a few times. As much as I wanted to be in the water I also wanted to efficiently execute this swim and get home. It was Friday, after all.
